Opening Up the Paper Cuts Collection: Publishing Zines as Community Practice

Sunday, April 11th, 2021 - Monday, April 12th, 2021
12 PM - 8 PM

Opening Up the Paper Cuts Collection is a series of three discussions between creators whose publications are featured in the Paper Cuts Zine Collection, now housed at the Center for Book Arts. Each event explores a different area of the Collection’s focus and builds connections between creators within the expansive contemporary small press community.

In advance of each event, publication documentation and previous podcast recordings featuring our panel participants will be made available on the CBA website. The event pages will offer deeper context of the artists’ practices as well as provide a greater insight into the new collection. Panelists include: Adriana Yvette Monsalve, Eric Von Haynes, Sarah Lopez, Nicholas Hurd, & Christopher Kardambikis.

Paper Cuts was founded as a podcast in 2015 by Christopher Kardambikis and in 2019 Jennifer Lillis joined as co-producer.

About the Panel

Moderated by Christopher Kardambikis, this conversation will elaborate on the ways in which the zine is a site for gathering, leveraging community ties and idea exchanges across expansive geographies. Each panelist will discuss how their practices are in service to their larger communities, and have become support tools across movements and struggles.

Note: Center for Book Arts will hold this event entirely online. A Zoom link will be sent in an email to all registrants. Please register via the Center for Book Arts website.
